Bryce Canyon
Study in Erosion

Beauty of Minerals from Antiquity

Expand your ego? Not during a visit to this national park. Overlooking the colorful spires under the morning sun expands your wonder of nature. Any human viewing the scene cannot help but feel puny in the scheme of things - yet thrill in the notion of deserving a place in the panorama sweeping to the far-off horizon. Each time I visit I am inspired by the scope and humbled by the grandeur of the landscape.

Bryce Canyon can be viewed from the road and its overlooks along the 18 miles along the rim of the Paunsaugunt plateau. Elevations vary from 6,000 to 9,100 feet. Aside from the breathtaking geological panoramas within in the park views beyond on a clear day vision are limited only by the curvature of the earth.

. The rock formations were eroded and still are being eroded by the wind the rain and the snow each and every minute. Every drop of moisture operates in its own way under the dynamics of physics and chemistry to wear away grains of sand that make their way down to the flats in the river in the center of the photograph. To grasp the change over time is mind boggling.

No vehicles are allowed within the park boundaries. Fifty miles of hiking trails offer closer accounts of strange and awesome formations. There are no roads within in the park, just trails used by rangers to patrol the park. These trails are named and marked for tourists' foot excursions deeper into the awesome formations. Our group ventures down toward the canyon floor.
