Today Tinsley/Mallard dives into
Titanic II

Ok, I admit it, today's cartoon totally took me by surprise.   There is no hatred or intolerance. No poorly drawn pictures of our President or his family.   No insults toward minorities or people with different political views.   No duck watching TV.   In short, I think somebody else drew today's edition!

What we DO have is the duck observing a couple enjoying the blockbuster movie "Titanic."   The woman is (according to the "thought bubble") enjoying the romance while the man is enjoying the adventure.   At the end of the 'toon, a "Hollywood exec" is thinking about "Titanic II."

Duh!

There is a natural tendency to "go with what works" and Titanic (the movie at least) REALLY WORKED.   Remember "Gone With The Wind"? Almost from the time it was released people were imagining a sequel. After all, what happened to Rhett? And Scarlett? Did he really not give a "damn?"

As for the men enjoying the "adventure" aspect of the movie....
I don't know about that. IT MAY WELL BE exciting to see HOW the ship sinks, but is that adventure?   Even if you just landed on this planet and never heard of the ill-fated Titanic, the first few minutes of the film "spill-the-beans" and reveal that the ship sinks.

What the men were probably watching was the very attractive and (surprisingly for a PG-13 movie) naked young starlett.   How often does your wife/girlfriend want you to take her to a flick with that much nudity/death/destruction? And for teens and pre-teens who cannot get into "R" rated movies, this was a bonanza.   It was also a great excuse for prudes who normally say "I don't go to the movies because they're all R-rated smut." to get out and see some really cool special effects (and nubile young breasts!).

So, are there any lies in todays cartoon, or has someone else taken over the pen that draws the duck?   They're pretty mild today, so I'd probably call them "subtle misdirections" instead of outright lies.   I doubt men are really attending again and again for the "adventure" and the whole thing about film-makers dreaming about a sequel is supposed to make us think that all they care about is money. WELL OF COURSE!   Film-making is a BUSINESS. The studios are companies and if they don't make money, their stock-holders are going to be upset. Does that change the fact that they are highly motivated to make films that entertain and draw us back again and again?   Well??? What do you think?

Dan, why are you picking on this dim-witted duck anyway?
