Thought for the day
April 6, 1999
Yesterday, former Starr-inquisitor "Ray Jahn" testified in the vindictive trial of Susan McDougal. Jahn did Starr's dirty-work for a couple of years before going back to practice law in Texas.
Under direct examination (by his former coworkers on the Starr team) he told the court that he was a Democrat who came to work for Starr to "clear the President." Yeah, uh-huh, right! Sort of like a Jew claiming he went to work for the Nazi SS to help ease suffering.
By this point, we have Susan and a corroborating witness who overheard the Starr zealots offer all sorts of "incentives" if people would just agree to lie about the President or his wife. Having Jahn come forward now and say he was a Clinton supporter and just trying to defend the President seems disingenuous.
Nevertheless, we are nearly to the closing arguments in this case and soon it will be in the jury's hands. I hate to pin too much on this trial, even though Starr has all but urinated on the Bill of Rights, it would be very sweet indeed for the courts to rebuke his methods against McDougal.
