Thought for the day
April 14, 1999
Today J. Danforth Quayle formally announced his bid to become President of the United States of America. (Yawn) He's been campaigning for months (if not years).
Ok, is this a total joke like Pat Buchannan? No, Quayle scares me because he is just kooky enough that people might underestimate him and I think that would be a mistake. American politics are well and truly rid of Dan Quayle, let's not repeat the mistake we made in 1988 by electing him to a national office!
In his speech today, Quayle pledged to restore integrity to the White House after "a dishonest decade of Bill Clinton and Al Gore." Gee Danny, isn't a "decade" TEN years? Weren't there a couple of bozo's in power from 1990 through 1992? Oh, I get it, it only seems like ten years to you (or you genuinely can't count to ten?)
But no, later in his speech he said "No more fuzzy math where four plus three feels like seven. It is seven." Well Dan you moron, which is it? Has William Jefferson Clinton been President of the United States for a decade as you said earlier? Or has he been President for about 7 years? (hint: this isn't the first time the "imperial caddy" has been completely wrong)
Then, breaking his promise not to attack his fellow Republican candidates, he attacked the son of his former boss, George Bush for his stand on the undeclared war in Kosovo. Hey Dan, way to keep your word!
Make no mistake, Quayle is NOT the worst choice for President. But given the field of Republican contenders, that is not saying very much.
