Today is the first of May, a day to celebrate workers. This day was regarded with great suspicion by Americans until quite recently because of the Communists. They embraced this day and so celebrating it was reviled as a "pinko" holiday. Now, we can step back and view it on its own merits. Interestingly enough, a survey was just released that ranked how Americans feel about work.
The survey was cosponsored by Columbia University and the National Institutes of Health for a symposium on gender and human sexuality. Asked:
"what is important or very important in your life",
| Loving family relationships | |
| Financial security | |
| Spiritual life | |
| A satisfying sex life | |
| Job Satisfaction |
So, sex was considered more important than being happy on the job? That's good. It wasn't that long ago that sex was considered a utilitarian chore, required by a tyrannical deity to perpetuate the species. Now people see it as more important to their lives than what they do for a living. Should Americans start celebrating "Mayday?" Maybe, but based on this survey, I think we should wait until after we create a holiday for sex. Maybe we could call it "Nookie Day" (or perhaps "Wednesday").
