I must admit I was surprised today that the defense rested in the petty and vindictive trial of Ms. Julie Steele. Attacked savagely by Ken Starr for refusing to lie under oath in his partisan crusade against President Clinton, Ms. Steele is the ONLY person brought to trial as a result of the millions of taxpayer dollars that Starr has pissed-away on the Lewinsky investigation.
Her defense already got the prosecution's own witnesses to admit that they, themselves have confessed to lying under oath in the past. But of course, this time, they're telling the truth, right? Oh, yeah, like I believe that. Willey admitted (on the stand) that she lied to both the FBI and the Starr-inquistors, but now Starr must embrace his own serpent and defend her because to allow another person to standup against him like the courageous Susan McDougal and the victorious President Clinton would leave the failed-rightwing attack dog completely impotent.
So now the jury has the case. Perhaps it is already decided even as I write this note. I'm not overly optimistic because the judge in this case seems more than a little sympathetic to the OIC-Stormtroopers. But perhaps the jury has seen enough to create a reasonable doubt. With a little luck, the sun will rise tomorrow on another stinging defeat for Ken Starr. But even if his minions prevail, all will not be lost. Even to this "non-lawyer" (I say that proudly) there appears to be a pretty good case for appeal. And Starr only wins in court when he can coerce people into pleading guilty.
Ms. Steele, our thoughts are with you and your family that Ken threatened to take away.
