Today, Kenneth "Get Clinton At Any Cost" Starr announced that he would not continue his vindictive and mean-spirited attempts to punish Julie Hiatt Steele and Susan McDougal for refusing to lie about our President.
Both Starr's trials have gone down in flames torpedoed by the backlash against his jackboot tactics ("Give us something on the Clintons and you can have immunity. Don't have any stories to tell? Maybe we should look into whether your son was legally adopted. You might lose your child, you sure you don't remember any incriminating stories?) When juries are exposed to this, only the most biased right-wing are able to even consider convicting. In the case of Mrs. McDougal, team-Starr couldn't even convince a simple majority of jurors. So today he admitted that there weren't 12 jurors in the whole country who would be able to ignore his actions and focus on his sorry allegations against these women.
Where does that leave us? Is this a bright day for America? Well, let's just say, you can see the sun shining through the clouds. But we cannot truly celebrate while this out of control PERsecutor is still in office or holding "secret indictments."
It's over Ken, you shot your wad too soon in the doomed hope that the lame-duck Republican House could use a blow-job to overturn a national election. You've cost millions and only sheepishly admitted that the Clintons are completely innocent on all the charges that you were appointed to investigate. Your only hope to appease your masters was to try to get the President to lie under oath. But he, like you, is a lawyer and was able to walk the razor's edge.
Your staff is deserting you, trying to get out before the stench of their collective actions stain them beyond redemption. Your dreams of sitting on the supreme court are (blessedly) in ruins. No Democrat would ever confirm you, and I doubt you could find more than a handful of Republicans who would ever back your nomination.
Your free-ride is ending, you just have to admit to yourself what we all knew when we read your sick, salacious "report." The President's acquittal just proved your charges were without merit. Heck, in a Senate controlled by Republicans, you couldn't even muster a simple majority.
It's time to go home, you've done enough damage. The country will recover, we're stronger than this wicked "investigation" of yours. Hell, this country even survived the evil Senator McCarthy. You're just a wanna-be compared to that monster, even though your target was much loftier.
Your time in the limelight is over, time to slink back to the relative anonymity of the redneck talkshow/lecture circuit and the muck of the rabid-Clinton-hating right-wing. You have committed the final unforgivably American "original sin," you're boring us!
