Today, the day after Memorial Day, seemed like a good time to pass on a request I saw for a worthy cause. I came across a full-page public service advertisement in the Los Angeles Times featuring actor Tom Hanks. Mr. Hanks recently starred in a WWII movie called "Saving Private Ryan" and so he was a logical choice to make this plea. There is a fundraising effort underway to construct a memorial to the many millions of men and women who struggled for America's victory during World War II.
There is not currently a memorial to this group of people who made our very liberty, not to mention the freedom of those in Europe, Asia, Africa and indeed the world, possible.
Please visit the official WWIImemorial website, and consider making a contribution.
This certainly is not limited to Americans. If you are living in any country with the exception of perhaps the aggressors (Germany, Japan and Italy) you owe your freedom, in part, to the men and women of the United States of America. Even if you are citizen of one of the aggressor nations (the "Axis" nations for those of you who flunked history), your life is probably better now that it would have been if the fascists had been victorious.
