Well, it's semi-official, Hillary Clinton is seeking election to the office of Senator from the state of New York. Like all the other candidates, she's just "exploring" right now, but it really looks like a campaign to me.
And why not? She's supported her husband for years and had to quit her law practice when he was elected. Why shouldn't she go back to work? But why as a senator? And why New York? I guess it makes sense, she doesn't plan on moving back to Arkansas after living in D.C. all this time. New York looks pretty good. She likes it there and is buying a home. The President has announced that he will move there with her after he leaves the Whitehouse.
Will New Yorkers accept a candidate who is so "new" to the state? I dunno, we'll have to wait for the general election for that answer. But there is a good chance. Much of New York is progressive. They know Hillary and perhaps they will find her a better choice than the other undeclared candidate (Mayor Rudolph Giuliani).
I've been following her actions since before her husband was elected president. Since my wife was a working woman who also bought cookies for school functions, we felt a closer relationship to her than the matronly Mrs. Bush. The way the fundies slammed her for not being a "stay-at-home" mom really irked me. That's a choice that every family has to deal with. But basically, I like her and the idea of a powerful woman is not frightening to me, at least no more frightening than the idea of a powerful man. So, yes, I am pleased with her and expect great things should the people of New York see fit to elect her.
