Air Show

I had an astonishing flurry of birds outside my window this morning. I’m used to seeing all these different species, but not feeding and flocking at the same time. At first, the half dozen robins, the flicker, a sapsucker, and several downy woodpeckers caught my eye. Then a flight of nuthatches, a towhee, a brown creeper, a junco and a variety of chickadees flew in. Before I had a chance to appreciate the whirlwind, a green hummingbird whizzed through.

Apparently the barred owl that lives in the cedar tree above my compost pile was asleep.
