No Caroline, there isn't a Santa Claus

Caroline Kennedy thinks she should be named a US Senator because, well, just because. She is a Kennedy, and her uncle used to have this seat. That gives her a special claim to it, doesn't it? Or how about how her endorsement did so much to get Obama elected? That proves that she is willing to work in politics. Or how about because Uncle Ted is about to die, and America needs a Kennedy in the Senate? If there is any other reason why she should be appointed as a senator, I can't think of what it is.

If Caroline Schwartz or Jones or Wellingsford-Smithe asked for this job with the exact same creditials, she would be sent to the end of the line. But this is Caroline Kennedy. That makes all the difference.

What is worse than selling a senate seat? Creating an aristocracy.

If Caroline Kennedy wants to be a senator, she should run for election, bring her case to the citizens, and hope they judge her well enough to serve them.

She should not trade on the family name to get appointed into one of the most powerful jobs in the world.

The only thing that makes me angrier than sexism is the stench of royalty. Make Caroline ask for the citizens' vote just like everybody else.
