Behind Every Successful Woman....

Governor Patterson appointed twice-elected Representative Gillibrand to the senate seat formerly held by Hillary Clinton. This week just keeps getting better and better.

Of course, Kirsten Gillibrand is qualified for the job, but for the first two hundred and thirty years of our country's history that wouldn't have made a difference. For the last month the most that women's rights advocates hoped for was that an American aristocrat, Caroline Kennedy, would at least keep a woman in the seat. What else could we expect after so many qualified women have spent their careers working without status, celebrity. and certainly, without fair pay.

Governor Patterson goes on my list of great Democrats. He knew the best man for the job was a woman.

Now fifty-one percent of the population can claim fifteen percent visibility in the United States Senate.
