I started doing my spring yard clean-up this week. Before I can do very much, I have to climb on my roof, sweep the pine needles, and clean the gutters. That debris ends up on my deck, lawn, and sidewalk. Next I am ready to start raking it in piles and hauling it away. Of course, every trip onto my roof involves somebody or another telling me ‘be careful’ which always leaves me contemplating what I would do if they hadn’t given me that warning. The slope of my roof isn’t steep, so walking around on it isn’t dangerous. Although once when I had a hose up there to help rinse pine needles off, it knocked the ladder down. Some teenagers were walking home from school, and one kindly stopped and put the ladder back up for me. I guess I should have been careful. After that, Jerry thought that I should take my cell phone up with me when I did anything on the roof. I know that he was just trying to look out for me, but who would I call? I was up there for an hour today, so most of the debris is at ground level now except for a few small limbs and sticks that caught on my shrubs on the way down. After I get all the annoying chores done, I will be ready to dig in and plant some spring flowers. |
