Theist Chimps

Chimps live in groups that are generally well-structured and peaceful. Sometimes(I have read) individual chimps murder, cannibalize, or steal. Sometimes groups wage war or harass chimps from other groups, but on the whole, they don’t run amok.

I’ve heard people say that if weren’t for the threat of hell, human society would be sociopathic madness. Without impending retribution, we would take every opportunity to behave as badly as we could.

Unlike chimps, humans need a vengeful god to prevent us from being nasty. Or is it possible that chimps have a god, and therefore behave better towards one another because hell looms below? I guess I can't prove they don't have one.
