Turn the Page

I like New Year's Day so much that it is hard to refrain from soppy, romantic musings. The new calendar is blank and full of possibilities. Growing up in Minnesota meant that the landscape was white as far as the eye could see, and that left me with the impression that time stretched out before me like a white landscape.

Having a new beginning makes resolutions imperative. Although I make a list of specific goals to accomplish, my resolutions are more of a map of where I want to go, aiming in a direction I want my life to go. This year I am aiming toward getting 'more, better Democrats' elected. As usual, improving my health routines is on the list. The older I get, the more attention I need to pay to diet and exercise. I also resolve to laugh more.

I live far enough north that the lengthening daylight is obvious. Last week, the earth swung around to the point in its orbit that tipped me towards the sun. (Sorry southern hemisphere, your turn is over.) The added minutes of daylight are noticeable. This week as a bonus, the sky is partially clear and the moon is big and silver. What a perfect New Year.
