Kitchen Clean-Up

I was tidying up the kitchen this morning which is one of those tasks that leaves my brain free to wonder about things. Like what is that hemisphere of mesh at the bottom of my coffee maker supposed to do? Or should we be doing something about the continent of discarded plastic that floats in the Pacific Ocean? Just because there's a lot of it, is it really doing any harm? Who bought that can of sardines?

I throw a lot of food away. Not because I am wasteful, but because I can't use an entire package of marshmallows before they meld into a solid glob. Because I don't eat cereal, but I often have guests who do. Because even if syrup never goes bad, after a bottle sits in the cupboard for three or four years, I figure it is clutter rather than food. I have kept a can of marzipan for nine years just to remind myself to never buy it again. I also have canned dinosaur. I know that if I opened it, I would find a little stuffed toy dinosaur, which is stupid, but unopened, the label amuses me.

Then after my pantry is tidied up, I write down all my silly thoughts or else they would circle around in my head forever. Like this.
