Fairly Tired

We went to the fair today, mostly for the rides and greasy food. And that's about all that's left of fairs these days. I figured after last year's scanty grange exhibits that they wouldn't be back this year, and they weren't. About all that was left of agricultural entries fit in the same low rent, beneath-the- grandstand real estate along with the dahlia and noxious weed exhibit. There were still animal entries thanks to active 4-H groups. Dog, cat, and rabbits were well represented. The quilt exhibit lacked the wow factor of art quilts that I know people around here make a lot of. Toys collections still show up from who-knows-where. (Do kids really keep toys untouched and on display?)

But smell of sugar and hickory smoke filled the air. Judging by the number of food vendors, that's what people come to fill up on so they can loose it on the rides. I don't go on rides since Ryanne outgrew the kiddie park. My first ten bites of funnel cake were wonderful, then- well batter and sugar held together by grease.

One thing the fair really does better than a mall is the people who try to sell you things are friendly and chatty.

We got home exhausted.
