Canned Meat

The subject of canned ham, the original Spam, came up today. As far as I know, I have never had it, and said so. I always say that when the subject comes up, which happens more than you might think. The remark that follows mine is: “It's not that bad.”

I'm not sure why someone always says that, but I doubt I will ever try something new just because it isn't that bad.

Have you ever had someone say, “Taste this. It's awful.”? Of course you have. Now that I've brought it up, you will notice it the next time someone says it.

I've never had pigs in a blanket either. I guess it is Vienna sausage wrapped in croissant dough. Those often show up at the bring-a-dish parties. I guess there is an older version that is standard sausage wrapped in a pancake.

There's another kind of canned mystery meat, but I don't know what it is called. It has the color and consistency of pate'. I have eaten it, and like it. It reminded me of baby food meat, only not as runny.

One thing that's always true about canned meat. It's easy to chew.
