Throw Away

Somebody took my lawn mower. My old lawn mower that had a 'FREE, still works' sign hung on it, but still it felt strange to look out at the driveway to discover it was gone.

Rust had eaten a hole big enough to fit a tennis ball through. The blade was so blunt that it bruised the grass more than cut it. The bag was starting to rot. But it still started and ran smoothly in spite of not having one single oil change since 1993.

I was worried that I would have to disassemble it to haul it to the dump, so I really hoped that 'free' would work. Then I was surprised when it did. It really was a piece of junk.

But then, I'm surprised and grateful when the garbage trucks come by and empty my garbage bin. I always feel anxious about that because it is disgusting, stinky garbage. Every week I am relieved to see that, yes, my garbage was emptied and hauled away. As modern conveniences go, that is a major one.

Jerry was also surprised to see it gone. I was in the bedroom when the telephone rang. He was in the driveway and used his cell phone to call me about it. Someone took our old lawn mower with the 'free' sign on it. I hope they know, you get what you pay for.
