Green, Green, It's Green, They Say

The best part of being in the middle of a really big project is that the house is a mess that I can feel good about. Currently two bedrooms and the living room floor are serving as wide, low shelves. The kitchen is a little disorganized, but I'm too busy to cook anyway.

This happens a couple of times a year. Sometimes it is seasonal like just before a holiday. More typically it comes from my having a little spare time and deciding to pick up on a hobby- quilting, for instance- that requires me to dig to the bottoms of closets and the plastic storage bins in the garage. I'm very clever at finding out of the way places to store things. Unfortunately, getting to those clever places requires turning the house upside down.

My project this time is painting the spare bedroom. Oh, yes, I have painted it many times before. It has run through the color wheel from pinks and peaches to yellows or greens. My favorite color was a dark, steely blue-gray. Unfortunately, the room doubles as a guest room so when a guest told me she felt like she was staying in a dungeon, I picked up on another painting chore.

Neon green. The color spring grass would be if it could break free of its dirty roots and fly free. The color that doesn't need light to shine. Open that door at midnight, and the glow lights the hallway. It is so beautiful that I might just leave it empty.

As for all the junk that came out of that room? I think there might be a corner in the garage that is under-utilized.
