Chef's Surprise

I think that Jerry is in luck for dinner tonight because whatever it was that I pulled out of the freezer smells pretty good.

Cooking is one of my least favorite things to do, so often when I cook, I cook enough for two meals. Half is for dinner, half goes in the freezer. That would be a pretty neat system if everything that I cooked always turned out well. Often it doesn't which means that one bad meal now, one bad meal later.

Last year I really lucked out. I bought a package of stew meat that told me how to make stew. It worked so well that I bought a slow cooker and have been making it about once a week ever since. It makes a nice break from spaghetti. Another thing that often works out well for me is meat loaf. Perfectly freezable, and who can really say what meat loaf is supposed to taste like anyway?

I always make Ryanne exactly what she asks for which is always ramen noodles or boiled eggs. Once in a while she prefers popcorn for dinner, which is a serving of grain in spite of the confusing 'corn' reference. Then with ice cream for desert, she gets a portion of dairy at the same time as protein. Also, since she is such a skinny kid, the extra fat and calories are important.

I'd better get back to the dinner defrosting on the stove. It looks like it's gonna need noodles.
