Who Am I?

Since coming home from vacation, I've had a bit of an upset stomach, which is very unusual for me. Which got me to thinking, since I'm a Capricorn, shouldn't my stomach hurt all the time? Maybe I have Scorpio rising or my moon is in Aquarius, but since my birthday is right smack in the center of Capricorn, it seems odd.

Now when it comes to the Chinese labeling system, my identity is much more confusing. I like to think I'm a dragon, because that is a very lucky sign, but not necessarily. Because Chinese New Year occurs in February, and I was born in January, shouldn't my totem be a year later? I have asked Chinese people about this, and they reassured me that I was a dragon, so I have tried to accept it.

It isn't just ancient time telling myths that people check to find out who they are. I bet there are magazines on the news stands right now that have quizzes that will reveal to you your true identity. Do you hate waiting in lines, run stop signs if nobody is around, or refuse to eat cookies with nuts in them? Then you are certainly a Type A personality, and doctors, (yes, college educated, adults) will tell you that you are more likely to have a heart attack. When you are at a party, do you stand in corner waiting for others to start a conversation? Do you prefer to watch television instead of going to the movies? Then you are an introvert. Although I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with that information.

I once failed a personality test. For some long forgotten reason, I was at my dad's office when I was about twelve years old. To pass time, he sat me down with a test that was given to clients to see where their interests lay. I answered dozens of questions such as: do I prefer playing chess or tennis? Would I rather read to a sick person or shoot ducks? (Well, the questions were sort of like that.) After totalling up the score to a number that didn't fit in any category, Dad decided that I was too young to have a personality.

But after all these years, I think I would still score about the same. Not because of my personality, but because I need too much information when asked about my likes and dislikes. For instance, do I like chocolate? Well, what kind? Is it mixed with something else or a flavoring? Is it wrapped in pretty foil? All those specific things are very important. So do I like chocolate? Yes and no.

Do I like sports? In theory, yes. In practice, no. I'm just a muddle of contradictions.

Which is why it would be comforting if I were a dragon or a Capricorn (which I understand is some type of water goat.) Dragon sounds more dignified, so I'm going with that.
